We know that you are all excited by the great speakers attending QED. You will also be doubtless looking forward to the great entertainment we will be putting on for you on the Saturday evening. Obviously you'll be eagerly awaiting the results of the Skeptic Magazine Awards which will be kicking off the festivities and you may be wondering who the Skeptic Mag will sending to present the gongs. Well wonder no longer!
QED are delighted to announce that the Skeptic Awards will be hosted by none other than Professor Richard Wiseman. Given our propensity to squeeze every last drop of work out of our guests Richard has also been pressed into service to compere the rest of the evening's entertainment. We're lead to believe that he's recently been trying his hand at stand-up (as if his CV wasn't packed enough already) and can think of no better crowd for him to get laughing than our attendees. And for those interested in his CV here is a little more detail (shamelessly lifted from his own website):
Richard researches the psychology of luck, self-help, persuasion, and illusion. A passionate advocate for science, his best-selling books have been translated into over 30 languages and he has presented keynote addresses at Microsoft, Caltech, and Google.
Richard is the most followed psychologist on Twitter, has created viral videos that have received over 18 million views, and was recently named as one of the top 100 people who make Britain a better place to live. Over 2 million people have taken part in his mass participation experiments and he has acted as a creative consultant to Derren Brown, The MythBusters, CBS's The Mentalist, and Heston Blumenthal.
Richard started his working life as a professional magician, is a Member of the Inner Magic Circle, and holds Britain's only Chair in the Public Understanding of Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire.
Author of several books, most recently Paranormality in which Richard examines how seemingly supernatural phenomena reveal a great deal about your brain and beliefs.
Richard appears on BBC Radio 4's Infinite Monkey Cage with Robin Ince, Brian Cox, Bruce Hood and Andy Nyman.
